peptbo logo BANDING RECOVERIES

OTHER THAN OWLS

Since banding started with the KFN in 1975, there have been over 260 recoveries of 53 species out of of the 190 species banded here.. However, with the exclusion of the Saw-whets, there have been recoveries from as far away as Alaska to the west, Rhode Island in the east, Brazil to the south and Quebec to the north. This shows that Prince Edward Point is a valuable staging post for birds that migrate all across the Americas. PEPTBO seldom catches birds that have been banded elsewhere, with the exception of Northern Saw-whet Owls. One exceptional recovery at PEPTBO was of a Rose-breasted Grosbeak that had been banded in Columbia in South America two years previously. It was the first of its kind from Columbia to have been recovered in Canada.
