NABC Banding Workshop & Certification
For the second year in a row, PEPtBO is hosting a NABC Banding Workshop & Certification. The North American Banding Council (NABC) is committed to promoting sound and ethical bird-banding practices and techniques.
Join us at the bird banding station in Prince Edward Point National Wildlife Area and at a private residence in Soup Harbour, Prince Edward County for a hands-on, field-based workshop conducted in small groups. Open air classroom discussions will cover the history of bird banding, banding techniques, Pyle aging and sexing methods, bird topography, molt, and more.

We aim to make our programs accessible, as such, reduced rates may be available for participants with accessibility needs - please reach out to discuss options.

Daily Schedule:
6:00 am – 6:30 am • Breakfast
6:30 am – 12:00 pm • Field Session Extraction and Banding Demonstration & Training (PEPtBO)
12:00 pm – 1:30 pm • Lunch
1:30 pm – 4:30 pm • Classroom instruction (Soup Harbour)
4:30 pm • End of day
2026 NABC Banding Certification - few spots remaining
We will also be holding a Certification session for Assistants, Banders and Trainers. See www.nabanding.net for Assistant, Bander, or Trainer level certification for requirements. Please note that the workshop will not provide the experience to pass the certification; prior banding experience is necessary.
Dates: September 19-20
Limited to 8 participants (may add more if needed)
Experience: Prior extraction experience required for Assistant Extractor; prior banding and extraction experience required for all other levels.
Cost: $165/day
Includes breakfast & lunch ($100 training program + $40 meals + $25 NABC fee for Certificate)
Daily Schedule
6:00 am – 6:30 am • Breakfast
6:30 am – 12:00 pm • Examination on schedule, Extraction, Banding, (PEPtBO)
12:00 pm – 1:30 pm • Lunch
1:30 pm – 4:30 pm • Written test, Pyle interview (Soup Harbor) , Band removal, Net Set-up (PEPtBO)
4:30 pm • End of day
All banding training will be at PEPtBO. Classroom instruction will be at Soup Harbour. Travel to and from PEPtBO/Soup Harbour will be participants' responsibility. Accommodations NOT included. Participants may register for either the workshop, certification, or both.
